How We Work
- SCAN – We identify and research opportunities, focusing on the most promising ideas.
- TRY – We prototype and test multiple concepts with customers early and often to find the best solutions.
- SCALE – The most promising concepts will grow and scale into a wholly owned new business for Fidelity, or a standalone venture.
Our team
There are surprises around every corner when building a new venture. You need to take smart risks and navigate ambiguity – and most importantly, you need diverse teams who can bring different experiences and perspectives.
With over 235 associates across seven sites globally, our small, multidisciplinary teams include developers, data scientists, designers, product managers, and business talent. Some are former entrepreneurs, and others were previously professionals from all different industries. What brings us together is a shared passion for tackling large-scale problems and building new businesses from the ground up.
We collaborate not just within Labs, but also with other groups at Fidelity Investments. We partner with Fidelity’s Information Security, Legal, Risk, Compliance, and HR—to name a few—to get our businesses ready to scale.
Our Story
The entrepreneurial spirit behind Fidelity Labs has been in place since Edward C. Johnson II founded Fidelity in 1946, disrupting the investment community’s status quo with a series of game-changing industry firsts.
Fidelity Labs was founded in 2005 to accelerate the development of new tools and capabilities for Fidelity.com. Over the years, our work and mission has evolved, but Labs has always played a critical role in driving growth and innovation for Fidelity. Since 2019, we’ve been focused on pursuing new business opportunities to shape the future for Fidelity, its customers, and the industry.
